Sonata di Paraffina e Paradossi

Sonata di Paraffina e Paradossi is a poetic documentary about humanity's relationship with nature amid climate change. The film explores how humans respond to extreme weather events and changing landscapes through viticulture.

The narrative takes as its starting point the phenomenon of the ‘frost candle’. These candles are deployed when there is still solid night frost, but the grapes or other fruit have already set. This way, the air under the vines becomes warm enough that the grapes do not freeze to death before harvest. With each year, our ability to listen to weather and growth signals comes under further strain. Our ability to adapt to and relate to the natural world on which we depend is becoming warped.
